Maintaining global peace is a serious matter, especially after the eruption of the past two Great Wars and some other conflicts in the world. For this purpose, many international organizations have been set up so that global harmony be maintained, and that the possibility of any other war be prevented.

United Nations Organization (UN)

The United Nations is an intergovernmental organization with 193 member states all over the world. It was set up after World War II. It endeavors to maintain global peace and security and promote good relations among nations. Its main objective is to prevent any future world war from erupting.

The United Nations is involved with maintaining peace where conflicts happen. In fact, peacekeepers are deployed anywhere in the world where the crisis happens.

The International Organization for Peace, Care and Relief 

This is a non-governmental organization (NGO). It was set up in 1999. Its head office is in Tripoli, Libya. It is involved in humanitarian actions and in the promotion of global peace, respect for social and cultural differences. It acts in order to build sustainable peace, stability, and prosperity. Among its many objectives, here are just a few: 

  • This organization condemns all forms of violence and aggression against people from military conflicts
  • It is against the production of weapons of mass destruction and their use
  • It is concerned with the refugee crisis, which consists of their protection and safe repatriation.

United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)

This nonprofit organization was founded in 1950 after the World War II. Its head offices are in Geneva and Switzerland. Its focus is on the protection of the rights and well-being of refugees. The organization was twice honored as a Nobel Peace Prize laureate. Its main preoccupations are to promote the well-being of refugees around the world, especially their basic needs.

International Labor Organization (ILO)

The ILO is a specialized agency within the United Nations, which is responsible for advancing social justice and promoting decent work for male and female workers anywhere in the world while respecting their dignity, security, equity and freedom. Its headquarters are located in Geneva and Switzerland.

World Food Program (WFP)

The WFP carries out humanitarian aid to address the issue of hunger and food security in 83 countries the world. It is an intergovernmental organization within the United Nations. Its mission includes, but is not limited to: 

  • Enabling individuals, communities and countries to meet their basic needs as far as food in concerned
  • Reducing undernutrition
  • Ensuring zero hunger in 2030
